The strong southerly storm (“Föhn”) two weeks ago has blasted away all powder in the higher Swiss mountains. I checked out conditions on the backside of Gemsstock (Andermatt). Awful conditions, really!

For the tour this Saturday we therefore chose a lower peak, the Schiberg (“Ski Mountain”) in the Waggital, about a 40 minutes drive from Zurich. For a route description check Skitours in the Zurich Region (in German sorry).

Even though it spring now, conditions (and the views) were absolutely great. We started at 900m! We skinned through the fresh powder (yes!). Soon we reached the 2100m high peak, which has an alpine feeling. skiing down was great as well. Check out the pictures:
