The Gforern Hora (or Horn) is an easy reach peak from the end of the Sertig Valley. The “Frozen Peak” offers most of time good snow and also powder sections as the slopes towards the peak are mostly in the shadow. So this is a recommended smaller tour (900m climb) in the Davos region, especially in late spring when the snow elsewhere has melted.

One can take the Swiss “Postauto” from Davos Platz or drive the car to the parking lots in Sertig Dörfli or at the end of the road. Both restaurants “Bergführer” and “Walserhuus Sertig” are highly recommended to have a drink or lunch after the tour and enjoying the spectacular view of the peaks closing of the Sertig valley.
The climb to Gforen Hora is pretty straight forward. Head Northeast initially and then turn into Southeast into the narrow valley heading up to Gforen Hora. There is a steep section just before you get to the ridge on top. So beware when there is fresh snow or significant avalanche danger. However, there is mostly a good track in the steep slope which is usually skied well.
When you reach the ridge (2700m) you still have to “climb” Westward to reach the highest point. Many ski tourers just stay at the ridge. In case you want to ski down the very steep South face (recommended in spring corn conditions) you should go to the top.
While not far away from “civilization” the views from Gforen Hora over the Chüealtal and the Ducan mountain range impressive.
